Glen Fitzmartin - Deputy Administrator, Bureau A
Glen Fitzmartin is the Felony Trial Bureau Chief for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. As chief of the trial section, he leads a team of approximately 95 attorneys across the felony and misdemeanor courts and 84 investigators.
Glen grew up in Dallas. He received his B.A. from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama and his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University, School of Law. He joined the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in August of 1997 as a misdemeanor prosecutor. After four and a half years and rising to the level of a felony prosecutor Glen, in 2002, left the District Attorney’s Office to start his own law practice focusing on criminal law. In 2006, Glen was appointed Judge of County Criminal Court #3 when the Dallas County Commissioner’s Court appointed him to fulfill the unexpired term of the then vacated judicial seat. In 2007 Glen returned to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office as a felony prosecutor. While at the office, Glen has tried hundreds of cases and has represented the State of Texas in thousands of cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies including robberies, sexual assaults, child abuse, family violence, drug cases, burglaries, murders and capital murder where the death penalty was sought and given. While at the office, Glen has served as deputy chief of misdemeanor, a court chief, chief of the Cold Case Unit and most recently as chief of Division A. Glen has been asked on numerous occasions to speak all over Texas on different topics in the field of criminal law including, voir dire, ethics, opening statements and search and seizure.
Lauren Black - Deputy Administrator, Bureau B
Lauren Black is the Deputy Administrator of Bureau B, overseeing multiple divisions including the Appellate Division, Misdemeanor Division, Grand Jury/Intake, Restorative Justice and Mental Health, and the newly created Vehicular Crimes Unit that she was instrumental in establishing in 2022. Lauren is responsible for coordinating the training for all prosecutors in the office, assisting with creating and implementing policies for the office, and taking high-profile cases to trial—like the case of Yaser Said in 2022.
Most recently, Lauren served as Chief of the Misdemeanor Division where she supervised 36 prosecutors, 12 legal assistants, and two investigators. As Chief of the Misdemeanor Division, she trained the office’s new attorneys on best practices in criminal prosecution.
Lauren grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and went on to pursue her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. She received her law degree from Texas Wesleyan School of Law—now Texas A&M University School of Law. Lauren joined Dallas County from Rockwall County, where she started her prosecution career in 2010. She began as a misdemeanor prosecutor and last served as a felony trial court chief until Dallas County welcomed her. She has extensive trial experience prosecuting all levels of criminal offenses, such as assaults, drug offenses, intoxication offenses involving serious bodily injury or death, child abuse, murder, and capital murder.
Lauren has a special interest in prosecuting intoxication offenses and was referred to as the dedicated expert for handling such cases in the Rockwall County District Attorney's Office. While there, she developed a telephonic warrant process that streamlined blood draw and search warrant procedures for the county. Recognized as a subject matter expert in the field, she has been requested to speak and teach across the State of Texas on prosecuting driving while intoxicated offenses.
Lauren is licensed by the State Bar of Texas and the United States Supreme Court. She currently serves as a faculty advisor and training committee member for the Texas District & County Attorneys Association. In these roles, she trains and mentors new Texas prosecutors and helps develop training curriculum for prosecutors state-wide. Lauren is passionate about mentoring the next generation of attorneys and works with the UNT Dallas College of Law as a mock trial competition coach.
LaQuita Long - Deputy Administrator, Bureau C
LaQuita Long is the Deputy Administrator, Bureau C, overseeing the following divisions: Public Integrity/Civil Rights, Juvenile Division, Sexual Assault Division, and Crimes Against Children. She previously served as Chief of Felony Division E where she supervised felony prosecutors in 7 District Courts.
LaQuita is from Houston, Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston Downtown Campus. She obtained her J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law on the campus of Texas Southern University in 2005.
While always focusing on the criminal justice system, Mrs. Long has been employed in many law enforcement fields. During her undergraduate studies she worked as a loss prevention associate for Foleys. She also worked as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. LaQuita moved into the juvenile sector working at Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation department. There she held positions as a drill instructor at their in-home boot camp, a Detention Officer, and a Probation Officer.
After becoming licensed to practice law in 2005, LaQuita joined the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in the Misdemeanor Division. She has prosecuted cases in the Misdemeanor, Felony, Organized Crime, and State Jail Divisions. She has prosecuted felonies of all types, including robbery, sexual assault, murder and capital murder, and she has worked on two death penalty trial teams. LaQuita was the recipient of the officers’ “Above and Beyond” award in 2011.
Barbara Nicholas - Deputy Administrator, Bureau D
Barbara Nichols is the Deputy Administrator, Bureau D, overseeing 21 attorneys and 11 staff and other personnel, who provide legal services to the County and its departments and elected officials in the following areas: Civil Division, State/Federal Civil Litigation, Bail Bond Forfeiture, and Civil Asset Forfeiture.
Barbara received her B.A. from Baylor University in 1997 and her J.D. from SMU School of Law in 2001, where she was a Master of Advocacy in the Board of Advocates and 3L Representative. Prior to joining the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in February, 2013, Barbara was in private practice focusing on civil litigation with a Dallas law firm, where she defended and/or advised Fortune 500 companies and governmental entities in a range of matters. Barbara has also served as an adjunct professor of Texas Civil Procedure at UNT College of Law, in 2019. In 2007, Barbara was selected for the prestigious America Marshall Memorial Fellowship by the German Marshall Fund of the Unites States, whose purpose is to promote Transatlantic relations. Barbara was also selected as a member of the 2012 Texas State Bar Leadership Class and the 2005 Dallas Young Lawyers Association (“DAYL”) Leadership Class and was chosen as the DAYL “One to Watch” in January 2008 and a Texas Rising Star in the field of business litigation in 2011. Barbara has published several articles including the following in Texas Lawyer in 2011: Fulfilling Document Preservation Obligations; Obtaining the Benefits of Chapter 95; and Five Dates Every Lawyer Should Calendar.
