Order of Continuance of Mpox Local Declaration of Disaster - Issued August 16, 2022

August 16 | Order of Continuance of Local Declaration of Disaster for Public Health Emergency WHEREAS, on August 4, 2022, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, declared a nationwide public health emergency related to the outbreak of the Monkeypox virus; and WHEREAS, on August 5, 2022, Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins, issued a Local Declaration of Disaster to address the Monkeypox outbreak in Dallas County; and WHEREAS, the Local Declaration of Disaster issued by Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins, also activated the Dallas County Emergency Management Plan: and WHEREAS, the August 5, 2022 Local Declaration of Disaster issued by Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins, expired by operation of law after seven days pursuant to Texas Government Code § 418.108(b): and WHEREAS, Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins, issued a subsequent Local Declaration of Disaster to continue to address the ongoing Monkeypox outbreak on August 12, 2022; and WHEREAS, the Dallas County Judge has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to contain, mitigate, and prevent the spread of Monkeypox outbreak in Dallas County and to facilitate the efficient, rapid, and cooperative response to the emergency; |
August 12 | Extension of Original Local Declaration of Disaster WHEREAS, Dallas County Judge, initially declared a Local Declaration of Disaster regarding the Monkeypox virus outbreak in Dallas County on August 5, 2022, and WHEREAS, the August 5th Local Declaration of Disaster expires by operation of law today, and WHEREAS, the County of Dallas, Texas on 12th day of August, 2022, continues to experience the ongoing outbreak of the Monkeypox virus and there is a need for ongoing resources and coordination to respond to the outbreak, and WHEREAS, due to the ongoing outbreak of the Monekypox virus, the County of Dallas, is suffering a continuing public calamity that requires emergency action and, WHEREAS, Clay Lewis Jenkins, the County Judge of Dallas County, Texas has determined that continued extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the spread of this virus. |
August 5 | WHEREAS, the County of Dallas, Texas on 5th day of August, 2022, is experiencing the highest number of Monkeypox cases in the state at 209 confirmed cases and there is a need for ongoing resources and coordination to respond to the outbreak caused by the Monkeypox virus, and WHEREAS, due to the ongoing outbreak of the Monekypox virus, the County of Dallas, is suffering a public calamity that requires emergency action and, WHEREAS, Clay Jenkins, the County Judge of Dallas County, Texas has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the spread of this virus. |
