Fair Housing
FAIR HOUSING
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended, makes discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, handicap, familial status, national origin illegal in connection with the sale or rental of most housing and any vacant land offered for residential construction or use.
Housing discrimination can come in many forms and can be very subtle. It can involve being told that the requested housing is no longer available, having to pay higher rents and/or security deposits, or being "steered" to a particular neighborhood or part of a multi-family housing complex.
Please report any suspected incidents of housing discrimination to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) through either its toll-free phone number (1-800-669-9777) or its website (www.hud.gov).
