The Public Integrity Unit investigates complaints from citizens and cases filed by law enforcement agencies dealing with individuals or organizations that that violate the law while operating with the public's trust. The Unit’s mission is to investigate and prosecute those who have misused the trust placed in them by State licensing boards or the citizens themselves through the elective process.

A new addition to this team is the Civil Rights Unit. This Unit is immediately notified of an officer involved shooting and responds to the scene with a prosecutor and two District Attorney Investigators. The investigators shadow the investigating police agency. Their presence at the scene is not to supplant the investigations of local law enforcement, who also seek to determine the validity of their officer’s actions, but to bring an independent evaluation of the facts. Once all evidence is gathered and evaluated, every officer involved shooting case is presented to the Grand Jury, with all relevant witnesses being allowed the opportunity to testify. Independence and Transparency are paramount to a process that is fair to both law enforcement and the citizens of this County.

Contact the public Integrity Unit at the number above if you have a complaint that needs to be heard.
