The Academy for Academic Excellence, chartered in 1999, provides educational services to all students residing in a Dallas County Juvenile Department institution, attending the Substance Abuse Unit day treatment program, or transitioning out of a residential placement to their home. The curriculum at the five campuses is designed to meet the unique needs of pre and post-adjudicated youth. Core components of the educational program include:

  • Individualized assessment
  • Student academic planning
  • Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) based curriculum
  • Individualized computer-assisted instruction
  • STAAR and EOC test preparation
  • Career and Technology Education
  • High School Equivalency Diploma test preparation

School curriculum also addresses the needs of the at-risk learner. A full range of Special Education and ESL services are available to all students, and are provided by state certified staff. After a classroom assessment is completed, students receive instruction in the core subjects of Math, Science, English/Language Arts, and Social Studies. Instruction is provided to help the students make improvement in any identified areas of weakness.
