Expired Driver’s License

A judge may dismiss a charge of driving with an expired license if the defendant remedies this defect within 10 working days.

The judge may assess the defendant an administrative fee not to exceed $10 when the charge of driving with an expired driver's license is dismissed.

Expired MVI (Motor Vehicle Inspection)

The court must dismiss a charge of driving with an expired inspection certificate if:

• the defendant remedies the defect within 10 working days; and
• the inspection certificate has not been expired for more than 60 days; and
• the defendant pays an administrative fee not to exceed $10 when the charge of driving with an expired inspection certificate has been remedied.

Expired Registration (License Plate)

A justice of the peace having jurisdiction of the offense may dismiss a charge of driving with an expired motor vehicle registration if the defendant:

• remedies the defect not later than the 10th working day after the date of the offense; and
• establishes that the DELINQUENT FEE (penalty fee has been paid); and,
• pays an administrative fee not to exceed $10 when the charge is dismissed.

FMFR - (Fail To Maintain Financial Responsibility - No Insurance)

It is a defense to prosecution that the person charged produces in court a motor vehicle liability insurance policy or a certificate of self-insurance previously issued to that person that was valid at the time that the offense is alleged to have occurred covering the vehicle driver when the citation was issued.

If the person charged produces the policy or certificate after confirming its authenticity the court must dismiss the charge.
