Construction is to begin in December 2011 on the first phase of what will soon be a three-mile trail that will connect neighborhoods, the City's Winters Park, Hawaiian Falls, the GISD Special Events Center, and the County's Spring Creek Forest Preserve together. The first phase will consist of an 0.8-mile segment across Spring Creek Forest Preserve between North Garland Avenue and Holdford Road and an extension to the GISD Special Events Center.
The trail will offer alternative transportation benefits and spectactular views of Spring Creek and one of the oldest forests in Dallas County. Paved parking will be available at Winters Park, the GISD Special Events Center, and the Preserve.
It is anticipated that the trail will be further extended in a few years to connect with the County's Spring Creek Park Preserve and with the existing 0.8-mile trail that the City has west of Shiloh Road/south of Campbell Road.
