Dewey Mitchell – Administrative Chief

Dewey Mitchell is the Chief of Division E of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Division E includes seven felony courts with twenty-one prosecutors and seven investigators. The prosecutors in this division routinely handle cases involving allegations of drug possessions, burglaries, aggravated robberies, murder, and capital murder. Mr. Mitchell is also in charge of all training programs within the District Attorney’s Office.
A native of Oklahoma, Dewey received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Oklahoma. Upon being licensed in 2001, Dewey began practicing in the corporate and securities section of a Dallas based law firm.
Mr. Mitchell began his career as a prosecutor with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in 2003. He was promoted to serve as a chief felony prosecutor in 2008 and has since served as a deputy chief in the Organized Crime Division. Mr. Mitchell also served as the Chief of the Misdemeanor Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Dewey has tried over one hundred cases including high-level narcotics distributions and murders. He has been lead counsel on multiple murder and capital murder cases which have received national media attention. He has also represented the State of Texas on several death penalty cases.
