The Organized Crime Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes crimes involving drug trafficking, child pornography, child prostitution, human trafficking, organized prostitution, and illegal gambling. The division employs nine lawyers and four investigators and works closely with federal, state and local law enforcement to prevent and punish these crimes and to advocate for the victims.
Nearly 75% of the Organized Crime Division’s resources are dedicated to the prosecution of drug related crimes. The high volume of cases involving illegal drug trafficking has required the use of “specialty courts”. These courts focus exclusively on litigating drug related crimes. As a result, the attorneys assigned to this division carry a high case load and maintain an intense trial schedule.
Internet Crimes Against Children and Other Organized Crime
A subsection of the Organized Crime Division specializes in the prosecution of Internet Crimes Against Children and works collaboratively with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In this area, as well as human trafficking and organized prostitution, the division collaborates with local agencies to provide resources and address the needs of high risk victims. By empowering this vulnerable group of individuals, this collaboration reduces the likelihood of victimization.
